Sustainability of Mineral Resources and the Environment

The International Conference SUSTAINABILITY OF MINERAL RESOURCES AND THE ENVIRONMENT took place in Bratislava on 21-22 November 2016.

The aim of the conference was to provide a unique possibility to share experience and perspectives internationally among the scientists, researchers, company representatives and policy makers from about 15 European countries in these main topics:

Mineral resources in EU countries

  • Raw materials as a social value – Recognizing the importance of mineral resources for national economy
  • Social licence to operate – How to evolve mining without conflict with society
  • Best Practice – Mining's contribution to economic growth and community development in Europe

Environmental Impact

  • Rehabilitation and reclamation, mining and environment – a win-win situation
  • Biodiversity – enhancement of ecosystems in post-rehabilitation processes
  • Secondary raw materials – recycling

The conference was organised by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic in close cooperation with the Slovak Environment Agency during the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2016.
