ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION PROGRAMME FOR THE TRNAVA-GALANTA ENDANGERED AREA (TGEA)

TGEA is situated in the southwest part of Slovakia. Its area is 384 km2 and number of population is 

162 000. The area belongs to the areas most intensively used for agriculture. Environmental load and pollution come from the chemical and food industry, energetics and from the activities of the former Nickel Works in Sereď. Air quality is affected by emissions from large industrial sources. 

Watercourses of this area belong to the Vah and Danube river basins. Also thermal waters can be found here that are used as supplementary heat sources in communal sphere and for recreation purposes. Soil quality is affected by heavy agricultural machines, point and non-point pollution. The soil also suffers from strong wind erosion.
