MONITORING OF LANDSLIDES AND OTHER SLOPE DEFORMATIONS IN SLOVAKIA

Environmental monitoring belongs to the most important and long-term activities of the Environmental Geology Department of the Dionýz Štúr State Geological Institute. It serves for regular monitoring of changes of the monitored characteristics, prognoses of the development of process activities, verification of prognoses reliability in practice, setting of critical warning levels and their verification, etc. When selecting geological factors, the Institute has focused on harmful, natural or athropogenic geological processes that endanger the environment. An increased attention is being paid to slope deformations belonging to the most dangerous geological factors. Experts focus on such localities where slope deformations occurred repeatedly (Veľká Čausa, Bojnice, Handlová, Banská Štiavnica, Sokol, etc.).
