One hour with Prince Charles in the virgin forest


The visit of Prince Charles in Zolná, Poniky and Badínsky virgin forest on the 1st November was organised by the organisation team of the Centre of Scientific Tourism at the Institute of Forest Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Zvolen within the “Green Diplomacy” project. One of the objectives of the said project is to persuade our citizens about the significance of natural and cultural heritage protection in Slovakia when also foreign well-known personalities show their interest in it. Prince Charles was enchanted by the peculiar atmosphere of the Badínsky virgin forest that is one of our oldest nature reserves (1913). He showed an interest in the position of Slovak natural forests in pan-European context. During the walk Prince Charles was discussing with his guides the significance of dead wood and real possibilities of forest management in Great Britain in environmental-friendly way where use of monocultures prevails. He also showed his personal interest in the British – Slovak project for children implementing in the whole Slovakia – “Monitoring of Biological Diversity of Fauna and Flora in Slovakia.
