The global warming is one of the most serious environmental problems at present. Climatic changes can influence the evolution of the vegetation and can cause the shift of the date of  phenological phases towards earlier or later period. The date of the first May sprouts of spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) is evaluated in the period of years1986 – 1998 in Slovakia. The date of this phenophase is shifted towards the earlier date.
