Environmental Conditions of the SR Accession to EU

One of the conditions of the accession of the Slovak Republic in the European Union is to achieve progress in the accession negotiations for acquis adoption, their implementation and enforcement. The European Union as one of the most difficult negotiation chapters considers the chapter „Environment“. The Slovak Republic declares acquis acceptance in the chapter „Environment“ and preparedness for its implementation by the reference date of the accession to EU (1 January 2004) with the exception of 9 directives in which, with regard to large funds needed, the Slovak Republic requests transition periods. They include directives in the field of air protection, water protection, waste management and industrial pollution control.
