Christine and Bill Parks Nature protection is our lifelong passion The American pair visited the High Tatras last year for the first time as the guests of the International Festival of Diving Films. Unfortunately, Chris?s disease prevented them from coming also this year. To their friends and other Festival participants they sent a letter expressing their extraordinarily positive relation to nature. They write about the years of often-fruitless environmental battles Bill mentions his childhood when he was spending his free time exploring the irrigation canals that surrounded his parents? business in the farm country of Southeast Florida. With his father as his guide he learned about different fishes, crustaceans, eels and salamanders. From childhood he was fascinated with the underwater world and therefore he is able to compare the state of environment at that time and at present. Once beautiful Florida reefs are polluted and dying, fish are few and dirty water feeds smothering algae. Similar declines are happening all over the world. He tries to find the answer to the question „Why do we let this happen?“ |
