Integrated management – the prerequisite of the good condition of waters in Slovakia

The process of the new Water Act development and approval and floods are probably the most frequently discussed topics at present. MoE SR has developed the draft Water Act in compliance with the Plan of Legislative Tasks of the Slovak Government for 2000. Thus, the requirement of the European Commission – the transposition of EU directives on water, with the exception of the Framework Directive on Water – has been fulfilled. The new Act has to be approved yet by the Parliament. The Act will not address all legal issues connected with the creation of financial sources  necessary for a comprehensive protection of water and for flood prevention. Climate changes and global warming result in floods characterised by unusual high water levels in rivers and torrential rains.
