Slovakia among the best-developed countries of the world

Pavel Toma, the director of the Environmental Concepts and Planning Department of MoE SR speaks about the National Strategy of Sustainable Development approved by the Slovak Government in 2001. Thus, the Slovak Republic joined the international alliance of countries focused on global environmental safety and implementation of sustainable development principles. He informs about organisational and institutional background of the strategy and about its contents. The history of the strategy started in 1992 when the Slovak Republic agreed with the accession to the Rio declaration and Agenda 21. In 1996, the Slovak Republic became the member of the Commission for the Sustainable Development and in 1997 the Strategy for Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development Indicators has been developed and approved.
