Slovak Environmental Agency helps to make the way to the European Union

The Slovak Environmental Agency (SEA), as the scientific organisation of the Ministry of Environment (MoE SR), performs since its establishment in 1993 challenging tasks in the field of environmental protection and improvement. The professional development of the organisation and its involvement in significant European environmental projects gains a wider and more important dimension. This is reflected in a large variety of SEA activities. Miroslav Tončík, the general director of SEA, evaluates SEA?s successes in 2001 in relation to international organisations, informs about tasks and projects for 2001 and states that the Slovak Environmental Agency is one of few organisations, which can flexibly respond to society?s requirements. One of its main activities is the development of the environmental information system, which provides information not only to professionals but also to lay public. SEA co-operates with many international organisations. It is a significant partner of the 1st International Festival of Environmental Films ECOmove (Berlin). In connection with the new territorial division of Slovakia and the transfer of competencies to self-governments, SEA will have to solve many tasks in the field of urban planning and within the Programme of a Village Restoration.
