Economic instruments of the environmental policy

Economic instruments of the protection and improvement of the environment are understood as a part of the set of instruments for the economy management. The choice and use of relevant instruments proceed from the objectives of the State Environmental Policy of the SR. The quality of the environment has been reflected in the existence of each human being therefore there is the need to implement a comprehensive policy of sustainable development. The Slovak Government has approved in August 2000 the Concept of New Methods of Environmental Financing and Protection, which also includes the task of environmental taxes imposing. However, to accomplish this a comprehensive ecological tax reform is necessary with the gradual transformation of the tax system. The article and the attachment include selected economic instruments of the environmental policy and selected economic indicators of the care for the environment in the SR in 1993 – 2001.
