The launch of the European meteorological satellite of the second generation

The meteorological satellite of the new generation MSG –1 (Meteosat Second Generation) was launched at the geostationary orbit on 28 August 2002. It will contribute to the development of meteorology, climatology and environmental sciences. The owner and the operator of the new satellite is the intergovernmental European organisation for meteorological satellites building, operation and use EUMETSAT. The author writes about the precursors of MSG 1 (e.g. still active Meteosat-5), its parameters and the successful launch of the new satellite.
