Facts from the history (An overview of the most important environmental events in Slovakia in the 20th century, the 1st part) (Developed on the basis of Jozef Klinda's publication “Environmentalistics and Law II, Bratislava 1998) The first part of the article brings a chronological information
about the environmental protection in governmental documents in Slovakia.
The first mentions of it appeared at the end of the 20th century.
In 1932 the first Slovak nature reservation was designated – the Slovak
Nature Reserve in Pieniny. After sixteen years the first Slovak National
Park was designated – the Tatra National Park and in 1955 the first
Law on the State Nature Protection was approved. The term “environment”
starts to be implemented in the 70-ties in the document Principles of
the Environmental Protection and Improvement that was followed by other
environmental documents and concept.
