Satellites for the environment

The article describes the work of LANDSAT 7, RADARSAT, IKONOS, EARTH-PHOBE and WEBGIS satellites that monitor Earth surface. Monitoring results are used in decision-making process, designing and assessment of the state of the environment and also in case of natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, fires, volcanic activities, etc.). The Remote Sensing Department has been working at the Slovak Environmental Agency. Its activities include digital processing of satellite data for natural sources monitoring, thematic mapping, GPS services, GIS applications and digital processing of civil and military topographic maps of different scales.
