Environmental management in the accession process of the Slovak Republic to the European Union

The chapter „Environment“ has been officially closed at the Accession Conference in Brussels in December 2001. MoE SR is the co-ordinator of this chapter in the process of European legislation transformation in the Slovak legal order. This includes also EU regulations, the implementation of which has a unique position in environmental protection – it is based on voluntariness of their implementation. The author has in mind the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council of European Communities No. 761/2001 (EMAS II) allowing voluntary participation by organisations in a Community eco-management and audit scheme and the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council No. 1980/2000 on the revised Community eco-label award scheme. On the basis of this, MoE SR has developed the draft Act on the eco-management and audit and the draft Act on environmental labelling. The draft Acts have been approved and they are in the stage of comments evaluation.
