Consuming way of life and environmentalism
The author presents views and approaches of the consumer way of life to the environment and sustainable consumption. The Slovak Consumers Union has been participating for 10 years already in the campaign organised by the international organisation Consumers International on the occasion of the World?s Day of Consumers Rights. It follows from inquiries that Slovak public has not enough information about consumers’? rights, mainly as far as genetically modified foodstuffs are concerned. In 2000, the Union provided in its 14 regional centres more than 4,000 consultations to its clients. Education of consumers is one of the Union?s priorities.
