Survey of Strategies and Policies of Greenhouse Gases Emission Reduction

(1)  Strategy, principles and priorities of national environmental policy

Strategy, principles and priorities of national environmental policy were adopted by the Government of the SR by Resolution No. 619 from 7 th September 1993 and unanimously by the NCSR on 18th November 1993. There were formulated short - term, medium - term and long - term (strategic) objectives of national environmental objectives. The short - term strategy includes National Programme of Greenhouse Gases Emissions Reduction

The Slovak energy strategy includes important tasks relating to Climate Change: The base strategy aim of this programme is the protection of forest (protection , rational utilisation and increase of forest land)
The objectives and measures for the period of 2000 - 2005 were also assigned in the Waste management programme in the Slovak Republic in 1993. In this programme the objectives for 1996 - 2000 have been modified based on the implementation of the objectives and measures originally assigned for 1993 - 1996, taking into account the situation development and expected economic potential. The construction of hazardous waste incinerating plants and deposits, biological waste compost expansion and waste reclamation increase can be considered a necessity.
The main aim of this policy is ecologisation of agriculture, including rational consumption of industrial fertilisers

(2) Resource programmes and projects

The objectives of the National Climate Programme of the Slovak Republic are analysis of regional climate trends and variability, regional interpretation of global climate change scenarios, assessment of vulnerabilities to climate change impact, development of mitigation and/ or adaptation strategies and policies. The objectives of the programme are : development of an inventory of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases, evaluation of technical options to mitigate net emission of greenhouse gases, analysis of the feasibility, costs and benefits of alternative options, programmes and measures.
