Mineral
waters in the Slovak republic
Slovakia is extraordinerily
rich on mineral and thermal waters. They have a big
sanitary , economic and social importance. All known types
of mineral waters except radioactive exist in Slovakia.
Some of them ioccures n very high concentration. Mineral
waters differ from the common ground water by its
chemical and physical properties. According to the
Czechoslovak Norm - 86 8000 there are three types of
mineral waters:
- natural
mineral waters are waters of
natural or caught springssources, containing on
issue more than 1 g of dissolved solids or 1 g
of dissolved CO2 in 1l.
- natural
curative waters are waters
,which have favourable effects on human health due
to their chemical composition and physical
properties. They have been scientifically proved
that it is possible to exploit them for
curative purposes.
- natural
potable mineral waters are waters
suitable for refreshing drinks due to their
chemical composition ,physical and sensual
properties. They contain less than 1 g of dissolved
CO2 and more than 5 g of dissolved solids. None of
these components as well as the whole set of these
components have no distinct pharmacological
effects.
Mineral and curative waters could
be divided and cathegorised according to:
- the gas composition of
mineral waters - carbonic, sulphur
- general mineralization /very
low mineralized, low mineralized, medium
mineralized and high mineralized
- the main ions content
of mineral waters - sulphur, iodine, bromic , ferrous
and with higher table of contents elements : Li
,Sr, Ba, Mn, F, H2Si3, HBO2
- biological and
pharmacological important components
- actual reaction : very acid,
very alkaline
- radioactivity - radon waters
- the temperature of the rock
media for the water which flows out of surface
origin / extremely low-thermal, low-thermal
,medium-thermal, high-thermal, overheated/
- osmotic pressure - hypotonic
, isotonic , hypertonic
The research of mineral and
curative springs is a part of the water-management research which
was processed in July 1992. The research was elaborated and based
on the spring inventory archived by Inspectorates of Spas
and Springs supervised by the Ministry of Health in
Bratislava . Information and data contained in P. Krahulec
publication " Mineral waters in Slovakia" from
1997 were also used to complete this material dokument study.
