The idea of the international conference was the presentation of the medical cave use and the protection of Karts areas. It was based on just finished project PHARE EC/HEA/10 SI Protection of Karts Areas, which was aimed at technology and instruments supplying within the framework of European Union help to the Slovak Republic.
The opening papers introduced the achieved results within the framework of environmental cave monitoring and speleotherapy. In RNDR. S. Klauec and RNDR. J. Filovej's lecture, "Microclimatic monitoring of speleotherapeutically used caves in Slovakia", 60 participants of the conference could learn about the new methods of gradual quality cave atmosphere monitoring with the view of possibilities to influence cave geoecosystems by speleotherapy and speleoclimatic stays realizing since 1992 in five Slovak open caves.
The participants were interested in Prof. MUDr. S. Dluholuck's lecture, "Medical aspects of speleotherapy in Slovakia",too. The author presented his knowledge of speleotherapy learnt from long-time medical research with the help of PHARE project.
