"Are big sports events in harmony with lasting maintain development?" |

This question was asked by our Norwegian guest Inge Aarhus,a director of the foundation-Environment of Lillehammer.Inge shared his experience with the environment protection during the Winter Olypmic Games'94 in Norway with us. At that time he was the chief of the Environment Departemnet in the self-government of Lillehammer. Winter Olympic Games are more demanding according to the prepartion of surroundings and ground than Summer Olympic Games. The country must be prepared for a big explosion. In 1988 the candidature was approved and we started preparations of the olympic area and improving environmental consciousness of our public. The self-government of our town cooperated with the International Committe and local out of government organizations very closely. The most demanding work was to harmonize the technical requirements of the sports areas with saving of natural, cultural and tourist's worth of the country. According to it, the detailed analysis was worked out. The committee solved 130 environmental projects, the most important of them was how to solve public transport, which in comparison with individual one reduces emissions a about 90%. |

How do you value the economic impact of the Olympic Games? |

The question is not easy. We have exact cost accountings.
- 7milliard (Norway Crowns)-capital assets,
-4 milliard -asserts in roads and servises, but takings were 3 milliard. However, we cannot express in money what our country has obtained. |

Would the town orzganize another Olympic Games? |
|
In course of preparations the public opinion was 50:50 and after the Olympic Games 90% of citizens stated the contribution of the Olympic Games. There are plans for a candidature for the Olympic Games 2010. |

Was anybody interested in animal and plant species loss after the Olympic Games? |
|
We weren' interested in the programme of monitoring setting after the Games, but the prevension was important for us. The result was that some of the sports equipments were moved 15 km away from originally located places. |

Do you take advantages of sports equipments? |
|
Taking advantages of sports equipments we solved after the Games. Some of them are used for sports other are used for culture. But the deficit is still about 10 million crowns a year. |

If you organized the Olympic Games again,would you choose Lillehammer or other place to support development of this place? |
|
It's better to use living equipments, however the Olympic Committee asks for higher requirements and it needs to build new areas. |

I suppose , you still have enough visitors. What's the impact on the nature? |
|
Visit rate has increased, but we don't consider tourism as threat in Norway. We think that the nature can resist heavy pressures. Tourists stay in urban zones,to the nature they move organizationally. |

Slovakia runs for the Olympic Games and sports areas would take place in three national parks.Would Norway insist on organizing the Games in this case? |

It is difficult to judge this situation, because we weren't involved in such one. I think the Olympic Committee would not agree with it. (db) |

Arial CE impact of the Olympic Games?
